Trip by the largest place of the zone, that lets us reach the great Salar de Atacama, a white and rugged surface where the lagoons keep a great number of flamingos that choose this water for nesting. Geological research studies suggest this great salar as the most important lithium reserve in the world, about in a 40%.  Under weak and narrow streams little villages are settled.  One of the most charming and colorful is Toconao, where an original architecture in Liparita stone can be appreciated, the old church building is outstanding in this area.  This is a little village that invites you to meet both, the place itself and its people, who spend their time on handmade fine wool knitting.
The Altiplanic Lagoons Miscanti-Meñique are located at 4.500 m. above the sea level, They are of great beauty, In their landscapes varied shades of colors can be appreciated, also, their flora and fauna is singular, since they exist only in these protected areas. The height allows being very near mountains and volcanoes, some of which are sacred, and they have inspired beautiful legends of the Desert of Atacama.
By the way we can visit the town of Socaire, where we´ll have lunch. This is a place in which the ancestral traditions of their inhabitants have lasted through the time, shepherds or farmers that cultivate the “pachamama” using the old system of Andean terraces.

Exploration to the highest geothermal area, located at 4.300 mts. above the sea level in the Andean Range, Geysers of Tatio.  The steam columns ascend seven 50 meters high, mixed with the fabulous beauty of The Andes, full of color and with many kinds of animals, where the most typical is the Vicuña, an American camel adapted to live in extreme geographical and climatic conditions. The geothermal fields have their origins in the magma.  The waters from The Andes thaws filtrate between crust cracks going down to deep hot zones, finally water reaches the magma raising as steam and boiling water, forming the steam columns and springs.  At the return, nature gives us a spectacular landscape full of mountains and volcanoes over 5.500 mts. above the sea level, and an important bird fauna on the little rivers that flow to the great Salar de Atacama.

MOON VALLEY

In the evening, one of the most expected moments is the sunset, and the best place to wait for it is the “Cordillera de la Sal” with its valleys, which are called Valle de Marte (Mars Valley) and Valle de la Luna (Valley of the Moon), which are saline and clayed shapes, product of mineralogical folds that occurred hundreds of millions years ago, originating little mountains with strange and capricious shapes, that sunset turns them into a moon landscape scene.
